The title is deliberately paradoxical; though the works appear dark at first glance, they reveal a hidden spectrum of color and emotion. Drawing on the rich symbolism of shells and pearls, Hofman uses these forms as poetic metaphors to express inner depth, transformation, and the quiet strength found in the ordinary.
